About Dollar Energy Fund

Dollar Energy Fund, Inc. provides utility assistance and services for low-income families and individuals, which in turn helps them obtain self-sufficiency. We work with the utility companies to design and administer programs to help customers who are experiencing hardships to improve their quality of life.

During the organization’s history, Dollar Energy Fund has grown to become one of the largest hardship funds in the country. Dollar Energy Fund now partners with over 20 utility companies to assist low-wage workers, their families and seniors in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia. The organization has provided over $85 million in utility assistance grants to more than 304,000 low-income households.

Dollar Energy Fund Hardship Program

The growing need for individuals to afford basic gas, water and electric service led to the development of the Dollar Energy Fund’s Hardship Program in 1983. The Hardship Program provides utility assistance to low-income households in the form of a grant applied to their utility bill. The Hardship Program partners with 13 Pennsylvania utility companies who match every donation we receive.

Throughout our history, the organization has undergone many changes, but our commitment to the Dollar Energy Fund mission remains the focus. Our hardship programs are the cornerstones of the organization and we continually work to find new and innovative ways to assist the households we serve.
